When Craig Savage saw the photo of Sam’s hand following a cycling accident, he could tell it was likely Sam would need several weeks off work to recover.
The day after the accident, Craig got in touch to recommend Sam make a claim under his income protection insurance policy. Although it was unclear at that stage exactly what the injury was and how long Sam would need off work, Craig got the paper work underway.
It turned out Sam had a badly broken thumb, which while covered by ACC, was not technically covered under his income protection policy. He was, however, covered for a broken wrist. Sam had also opted for a 13 week stand-down, so with a recommended 8 weeks off work, again he fell just shy of his policy terms.
Craig wrote to the insurer on Sam’s behalf and advocated for a favourable outcome, even though he recognised the claim could be declined on technical grounds. The appeal won the insurer over and Sam was delighted to receive a one-off payment from the insurer for 6 weeks off work.
‘Craig has done everything… literally all I had to do was to email a few ACC forms to him. Getting a healthy pay out was definitely good news when you can’t work and have bills to pay!’
Sam says getting income protection through Craig has been one of the best things he has ever done.
‘He’s tailor made a policy specific to me and my budget and it gives me peace of mind knowing that should I be out of work, I’ll still have money coming in.’
