Heath Johnson is a man on a mission, spending countless hours behind the wheel travelling between our Christchurch Head Office, Southsure’s Head Office in Invercargill, and Dunedin, where he’s been charged with establishing our southern-most brokerage.
Following Southsure Assurance Ltd’s investment in Abbott Insurance Brokers as a cornerstone shareholder in April 2014, it made good business sense to have a physical presence in the south to strengthen our working relationship with Southsure and its parent company, SBS Bank.
While exciting, green-fields opportunities are never easy or straight-forward, so it takes a special kind of broker to rise to the occasion.
We needed someone we could trust to represent the brand and demonstrate the experience and expertise of an Abbott broker. We needed someone who could represent us at the boardroom table and out in the paddocks or milking sheds. We needed someone with the energy, drive and local knowledge to take on a vast territory, including Southland, Otago and South Canterbury.
Heath has quickly risen to the challenge, finding premises in established Moray Place off Dunedin’s iconic Octagon, and working hard to build a new client base.
“I’m passionate about bringing our business south and providing the strong service and relationship model we pride ourselves on,” says Heath.
“It’s great to be back in my home town where I started my insurance career 15 years ago. With family in Southland and Central Otago, Dunedin has always been my home. It’s great to be back in the area and supporting the Highlanders.”
Before joining Abbott Insurance Brokers, Heath looked after our account on behalf of a major insurer as a Business Development Manager. He’s one of the few brokers in New Zealand who has successfully worked as both an insurer and broker and it gives Heath an edge when running a start-up brokerage. He understands how insurers work, their systems and processes, and how reinsurance works.
He also has a great ability to convey his vast insurance knowledge in ‘layman’s terms’, which makes him a favourite among many clients.
Heath is actively seeking new business opportunities and referrals and welcomes new inquiries for any aspect of risk management, commercial and rural insurance.
He personally guarantees a professional, enthusiastic service.
