You may have noticed Google’s Gmail looks a bit different of late with the tech giant rolling out many new features and benefits in February for Gmail account users worldwide. You may also be wondering what that has to do with us and your insurance.
Well, it’s all to do with Gmail’s spam filters, which have been reset as part of global anti-spam measures. While that’s a good thing, occasionally, legitimate email messages may be marked as junk or spam and diverted to these folders, and the sender won’t know this has happened.
The good news is, recipients can mark valid messages as ‘not spam’, which means any future emails from the sender should be delivered straight to their inbox. We’ll show you how below.
Haven’t heard from us?
If you have a Gmail account and you’ve been expecting an email from us, please check your junk or spam folders. If you see an email from your adviser or broker, or anyone else @abbott.co.nz, there are two ways you can mark them as not ‘spam’.
From your Gmail account:
- On your computer, open Gmail.
- On the left, click More.
- Click Spam.
- Open the email.
- At the top, click Not spam.
To stop a message from being sent to Spam in the future, you can also: Add a contact
- On your computer, go to Google Contacts.
- At the top left, click Create contact.
- Click Create contact or Create multiple contacts.
- Enter the contact’s information.
- Click Save.
From Outlook:
- Select a message from a sender domain your want to unblock.
- Then click Home > Junk > Never Block Sender’s Domain.
- A prompt box will appear confirming the sender’s domain name has been added to the safe senders list.
- Click OK to close the prompt box, and the emails will never be blocked if their domains are added to the safe senders list.
What if you’re expecting emails from us but there are no messages in your Gmail folders?
There are a couple of reasons why emails we’ve sent may not show in your junk or spam folders. Firstly, our emails may have been blocked altogether by Gmail’s spam filters. Another reason could be the auto-delete function. Typically, Gmail messages are permanently deleted 30 days after they are placed in the junk or spam folders. Outlook is the same, with a 30-day auto-delete function, although this can be set to fewer or more days. But that’s another story.
If you are expecting to hear from us and haven’t received an email, please contact your adviser or broker as soon as possible so we can get messages and important insurance documents to you.
You’ll find the contact details for our advisers and brokers here or simply contact your local branch during business hours.
