Wellington-based craft beer brewery and Abbott Group client Garage Project has been named New Zealand’s best brewery by beer fans at the annual Society of Beer Advocates national awards. Based out of a once derelict petrol station, Garage Project has developed a reputation for brewing distinctive and experimental beer. The creative and pictorial artwork that adorns their bottles and cans also sets them apart by conveying each of the individual beers personality.
The Abbott Group has been delighted to have been a small part of that journey from a small business based out of a residential garage with less than $50,000 of plant and equipment, to a nano-brewery filling kegs for local bars and restaurants, and now to a sophisticated micro-brewery quenching Wellington’s insatiable thirst for craft beer and also exporting product to Australia, Europe and the USA.
With this high growth, the Abbott Group has had to be equally adaptable in providing sound risk management advice and a bespoke insurance solution to suit a brewery’s unique exposures. Increases in revenue, changes in markets, product lines and/or business services can have implications on a business’ insurance programme. Having a close and familiar relationship between a broker and a business, particularly a growing business, is really important to us and represents a key part of our value to clients.
We need to know a business intimately in order to provide best advice and reduce exposure to risk, whether it’s simply a matter of updating the Business Interruption sum(s) insured or providing disclosure to the insurer. Our best advice for businesses experiencing significant business growth or change such as the Garage Project – is to communicate with your broker!
If you’re in Wellington we recommend that you head down to the Garage Project’s on-site cellar door, where you can sample from up to 8 tap beers and take away your favourite in either a flagon (straight from the tap!), a range of bottles and cans, as well as buy t-shirts, posters and glassware. Garage Project also expects to have a taproom bar open close to the main brewery in the next few months.
